Marble Lady Figurines & Classical Busts

European Classical Form — Carved in Indian Marble

The classical female figure is the oldest continuous subject in stone sculpture — draped, poised, and carved to be walked around rather than viewed from one side. What makes these pieces work in a home is restraint: the detail is in the drapery and the turn of the head, not in ornament.

Shilakrut carves these in premium Makrana marble, the same white stone used across India’s monument tradition. The collection covers portrait busts, standing draped figures, seated forms, and the classic water-bearer pose — each hand-finished so the folds and features hold their edge.

Why Classical The Tradition Behind the Classical Figure

Classical figurative sculpture has stayed in demand for centuries for a practical reason: it flatters the space it occupies. A draped standing figure introduces a vertical line and a soft curve into a room of rectangles, which is why these pieces appear as readily in contemporary interiors as in period ones.

There is also the matter of finish. White marble in a classical form is the most demanding thing a sculptor can attempt — there is nowhere for a mistake to hide. A well-carved lady figurine is, quite openly, a demonstration of the workshop’s skill.

Timeless Subject A form that has not gone out of style in two thousand years
Makrana White Marble The fine-grained stone classical carving demands
Drapery Detail Folds and fabric worked by hand, not moulded
Busts & Full Figures Compact portrait busts through to standing statues
Perfect For Where a Lady Figurine Belongs

Classical figures suit spaces with a little formality — somewhere the piece can be approached and viewed from more than one angle.

Busts sit best at or slightly below eye level — a console, a plinth, or a shelf around chest height. Standing figures need a little more thought: a pedestal that raises the piece so the head sits near eye level makes the proportions read correctly, while a figure placed too low looks shortened.

Because these pieces are carved in the round, leave enough clearance to walk past and view them from the side. Soft, warm side-lighting suits white marble best — hard overhead light washes out the subtle modelling in the face and drapery that the carving depends on.

These are classical decorative figures carved to established designs, chosen for their form and finish. Our custom portrait busts are commissioned from your own reference photographs to capture a specific person’s likeness — a different service, available on the Marble Human Statue pages.

Primarily premium Makrana white marble, which is fine-grained enough to hold facial detail and drapery folds cleanly. Other stones can be discussed for specific commissions.

Busts typically start around a foot in height, while standing and seated figures range from tabletop scale up to near life-size. Available sizes vary by design — send an enquiry with the design code for exact options.

Yes. Most designs can be scaled up, including to life-size for lobbies, gardens, and hotel interiors. Larger pieces take longer and are quoted individually.

Some designs include an integrated base. Separate marble pedestals can also be made to match, which is usually recommended for standing figures so the piece sits at the right viewing height.

Dust with a soft dry cloth regularly. For marks, use a barely damp cloth with plain water and dry immediately. Never use vinegar, lemon, or bathroom cleaners — acids etch white marble permanently and the damage cannot be polished out at home.

Good-quality Makrana marble is stable indoors and does not yellow under normal conditions. Discolouration usually comes from oils, smoke, or unsuitable cleaning products rather than from the stone itself.

White marble tolerates outdoor placement — it has been used in Indian monuments for centuries — but decorative figurines benefit from a covered position, a raised plinth, and periodic sealing. Mention the location when enquiring.

Yes. Share a reference image of the pose or style you have in mind and our team will advise on feasibility, stone, size, and timeline before carving begins.

Each figurine is foam-wrapped, cushioned, and crated in wooden packing. Standing figures are secured against movement, and delivery across India is arranged directly by our team.
